Africa"Murrine" is one of the world's oldest decorating techniques in glass making, from the egyptian times through to ancient Rome and revived in Venice in the 1880s. It is achieved by joining glass canes of various colours to a desired pattern. The canes are then heated until they form a single bar, this is then sectioned (cut) to obtain small glass discs or squares. The discs and squares are laid out on a plate that is heated. From there the glass is formed useing all the normal hot glass techniques into the finished piece. |
